Fall Sewing Week Update

WSA partnered with The University of KY Cooperative Extension - Lewis County for a new volunteer opportunity during September 19-25, 2009 in Vanceburg, KY.   The project was a great success.

WSA and local volunteers gathered for 2 1/2 days of sewing beginning on Monday 9/21/2009.  We had 14 people working over the days with an average of 8-10 volunteers at any one time.  It proved to be a time of good fellowship and camaraderie as we worked to complete the promised items for The Golden Living Center in Vanceburg.

We completed 210 pillowcases (2 for each resident - 1 for their bed and one for the laundry), 30 wheelchair caddies, 10 walker caddies, 10 bedside saddlebags and 10 clothing protectors.

About this Book:
"Kentucky Woman" is a book you don't often find: direct, unpretentious, and thought-provoking in its simplicity. Author Mary Ellen Klatte has captured the fortitude of Kentuckians through the true story of Viebie Lee Cantrell, who overcame great obstacles in the early 1900s to pursue her dreams, her goals...and her love, Talmage Cantrell.
